Hi! I know that it has been a while since I have blogged about my progress but I have been practicing my cursive skills with the printouts that I found online and have been journaling along the way. I have just not been keeping up with reporting my progress. But from now on I will keep you informed on how my calligraphy journey is going.
With that, I present to you Kickin' It with T: Calligraphy Day 2. In the photo above I have compiled a collage of my calligraphy progress. The photos on the top are the printouts and the ones on the bottom are my attempts to recreate them. For my second and third attempts I do not think they are too bad BUT it they did require more concentration than I expected.
Overall, for the first three that I tried have been successes. By far the second and third pictures were way more intricate and detailed than the first. I think that this is because I used the thin tipped marker on those rather than the bigger one. After doing this practice my struggling letters were definitely "G" "S" "M" and "Z". And after spending a good part of my day doing these I have realized the following:
- Once you get going, calligraphy is a very relaxing hobby
- When practicing with a printout use a thinner marker- the orange was easy to use for doing the cursive but if you wanted to make sections wider like the other two examples it is easier to use a thinner marker.
- I am definitely a visual learner...trying to copy these letters and figuring the hand motion for the curvy end movement was very difficult for me. Although I am just beginning I would rather take a class to watch and mimic what they do instead of doing it on my own
- I am also having a hard time spacing out my letters and exaggerating...my letters are always so close together which is something that I am going to try and work on.
- Although I struggle with copying, this is good cursive practice
I have not found a style that I like but so far I enjoy just free handing. But I have found a couple calligrapher artist that I do enjoy watching such as m.a calligraphy, that I will highlight in my future blogs. The clean, effortless movement is my goal but for now I will just continue just being mesmerized at how easily they make it.
In my next two blogs I will be finishing rest of the printouts and then I will switch to see if following a YouTube video is easy. But until then thanks for following my journey! :)
